Preserving a Generation's Cuisine & Stories

Preserve. Relish. Share.

Welcome to the Nonna Project

At the Nonna Project, we believe that every recipe tells a story. Each ingredient, every stir, and every bite holds a narrative that extends beyond the kitchen and reaches deep into the roots of our rich cultural heritage. Our mission? To capture these tales and traditions before they're lost to time, right from the heart of every home—the kitchen.

As a non-profit initiative, we journey across cultures, gathering a trove of culinary wisdom and life stories from the matriarchs of our societies—our beloved grandmothers or "Nonnas."

We go beyond mere ingredients and procedures—we aim encapsulate the shared joy and intimate bond of cooking with someone. In documenting these experiences, we preserve not just a generation's expertise, but also their legacy of love, history, and shared kitchen camaraderie.

Through beautiful video documentation, our chefs cook with culturally diverse grandmothers, preserving their prized recipes and narratives. We go beyond recipe conservation, capturing the essence and heritage of each dish. This joint effort ensures the continued influence of each Nonna's legacy, ingrained in the rich culture, love, and familial bonds of their cuisine.

Our Mission

Our mission is to weave a worldwide tapestry of history, love, and resilience, all expressed through the compelling medium of food. We call upon grandmothers from diverse cultures to share their cherished traditional recipes and the deeply personal narratives embedded within them. In doing so, we seek to construct a priceless repository of culture, a treasure trove for food lovers, historians, and cultural explorers who understand that food is more than sustenance—it's a testament to our shared human experience.
